Alan Cominsky named Fire Chief of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department
Chief Cominsky brings 25 years of outstanding leadership to MDFR
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez has appointed Alan Cominsky to the position of Fire Chief of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, effective May 18, 2020.
Chief Cominsky has led the department with integrity since being appointed Interim Fire Chief on December 10, 2019. He has proven himself to be a dedicated professional throughout his 25 years of service to the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, which is the sixth-largest accredited full-service fire and rescue department in the southeastern United States.
“Chief Cominsky has demonstrated outstanding leadership, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Gimenez said. “I am confident of his ability to continue to successfully lead the department moving forward through these challenging times.”
Since joining MDFR in 1995, Chief Cominsky has served with great distinction in every capacity of the fire service. Prior to his appointment as interim fire chief, he was assistant fire chief for Technical and Support Services, MDFR’s Fire Marshal, division chief of Fire Prevention, division chief of South Operations, division chief of North Operations, and Hazardous Materials battalion chief. He rose through the ranks of the organization and has held every civil service rank, including firefighter, fire lieutenant, fire captain, and battalion chief.
A South Florida native and a graduate of Southwest Senior High School, Chief Cominsky has earned an Associate Degree in Science and an Associate Degree in Arts from Miami-Dade Community College, along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration and a Master's Degree in Public Administration, both from Barry University.
