Strict rules set for businesses closed due to non-compliance with New Normal Guidelines
Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez signs amendment requiring review period and filing of affidavit before re-opening
On Friday, June 19, 2020, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez signed Amendment 3 to Emergency Order 23-20 requiring all businesses that are shut down due to noncompliance with the New Normal Guidelines to take specified measures before re-opening. This amendment goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020.
“The New Normal education time has officially ended in our County,” Mayor Gimenez said. “In the past couple of weeks, too many people have been getting too relaxed about the rules we all must follow to ensure our public health. So we are now cracking down hard on businesses that fail to comply because we need to tamp down the recent uptick in COVID-19 positives that our County has seen.”
Non-compliant businesses may face a $500 fine and up to 180 days in jail.
In order to re-open, businesses that have been closed due to non-compliance must take 24 hours to review the New Normal Guidelines and also take all necessary measures to meet the requirements. These businesses must also submit an affidavit demonstrating that they have completed these steps.
"Everyone must take personal responsibility to help stop the spread of this virus," Mayor Gimenez said. "We all know the routine by now, which is wear your mask, wash your hands and keep your distance. Each of us must act as if we are infected and take all these steps to prevent transmitting this virus to others."
