Deering Estate presents Rosemarie Chiarlone: STILL NOW
The Deering Estate presents STILL NOW, an exhibition of works by artist Rosemarie Chiarlone, on display daily in the historic Stone House Great Hall gallery from October 23, 2020 to January 31, 2021.
STILL NOW addresses the urgency of the global environmental crisis while referencing Charles Deering's prescient concern for the loss of native habitats due to the influx of population to South Florida almost a century ago.
Drawing on the broad issues of environment, preservation and climate change, the work includes various disciplines to point toward transforming viewers’ perception of these problems. The exhibition reminds us that, still now, we continue our concern for the environment that Charles Deering initiated in his plans for the natural environment of the Deering Estate. The exhibition includes three large undulating paper works with perforated poetic text hanging on the historic walls of the Stone House. Also included are a series of photographs elucidating the human connection to our path toward ecological awareness and conservation. The photographs are displayed in light boxes on the floor that, when viewed together, create a central sculptural form that centers the exhibition.
