Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava Appoints Dr. Peter Paige to Serve as Chief Medical Officer

MIAMI ( November 17, 2020 )

Today, on day one of her new administration, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced she is appointing Dr. Peter Paige to serve as Miami-Dade County’s first Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Paige is the Chief Physician Executive and Chief Clinical Officer at Jackson Health System and will help lead Mayor Levine Cava administration’s coronavirus response and recovery effort as cases rise in Miami-Dade and across the country.

“Dr. Paige is a lifelong public health leader and distinguished medical expert who has helped shepherd our community through other health crises including the Zika virus outbreak," said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. "With Dr. Paige in this pivotal new role, Miami-Dade County and Jackson – our public health system, and one of our first lines of defense against the pandemic – will work hand-in-hand with a unified strategy to fight coronavirus.

An emergency physician by training, Dr. Paige brings decades of experience and steady-handed leadership to help us confront this worsening crisis. I know he'll work tirelessly to protect the health of our County so our residents can get back to work and we get our economy back on its feet.”

“Mayor Levine Cava and I share a commitment to leading with science and data, not politics, to navigate this unprecedented crisis," said Dr. Paige. "I am humbled to be entrusted with the responsibility of helping protect the health and well-being of all Miami-Dade residents. Together we'll work to develop a stronger, more effective public health response, and ensure residents and businesses have a trusted voice they can turn to for critical information and resources to curb the spread of coronavirus."

Dr. Paige is Executive Vice President, Chief Physician Executive, and Chief Clinical Officer at Jackson Health System, where he oversees the Chief Medical Officers of each Jackson Health System hospital. Since he joined Jackson's leadership team in 2013 he has played an instrumental role in leading multiple Emergency Management and Disaster Response programs, including Jackson's response to the Zika virus outbreak. Prior to joining Jackson, Dr. Paige served as the Associate Chief Operating Officer of UMass Memorial Medical Center, and holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon, SUNY Health Science Center, and Lemoyne College.
