Carnival Horizon back at PortMiami
This week the Carnival Horizon cruise ship returned to PortMiami. The Horizon is the first Carnival Cruise Line ship that is scheduled to prepare for sailing in the United States when the time is right.
PortMiami is working closely with its cruise line partners on establishing new healthy measures and protocols to accommodate the eventual safe restart of sailing when approved by the CDC. Miami-Dade County’s new Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Peter Paige, will be working hand-in-hand with PortMiami and the chief medical officers for the cruise lines to put in place practices to protect the health and safety of cruise ship employees and passengers.
“We are thankful and excited to have the Carnival Horizon back at PortMiami,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “And I’m glad to have our new Chief Medical Officer Dr. Peter Paige on board to drive further collaboration with the cruise industry to protect the wellbeing of all our residents, visitors, and industry employees, as we look ahead to an eventual safe return to cruising – a cornerstone of our regional economy.”
“Carnival Cruise Line and PortMiami enjoy a collaborative relationship that spans decades,” said Tourism and Ports Committee Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa. “The return of the Carnival Horizon to its homeport in the Cruise Capital of the world is another demonstration of that great partnership.”
