Mayor Daniella Levine Cava Announces New Communications Team
Today, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced a diverse cross-section of the Miami-Dade community as her new communications team within the Miami-Dade County Mayor’s office.
“Communicating clearly and creating a two-way dialogue with our entire community is a priority for my administration,” said Mayor Levine Cava. “I’m thrilled to welcome this talented team of communicators to the Mayor’s office. They bring a diverse array of experience in digital and traditional media as well as direct community organizing to help make our local government more transparent and accessible, and to engage the public directly as we tackle big challenges.”
Rachel Johnson, Communications Director
Rachel Johnson is a seasoned communications leader with experience in digital marketing and communications campaigns, public affairs, brand strategy, and strategic partnerships within government, politics, and the private sector. She is a veteran of federal, statewide, and local political campaigns and previously worked in Mayor Levine Cava’s Commission office. She holds a B.A. in History and Literature from Harvard University.
Luisana Pérez Fernández, Deputy Communications Director
Luisana Pérez Fernández is a first-generation Venezuelan immigrant who previously served as Deputy Communications Director for President-Elect Joe Biden’s Florida Coordinated campaign and the Florida Democratic Party. In her role with the FDP Luisana led the state party’s efforts to innovate and expand its Hispanic media strategy, including spearheading the development of a weekly Spanish language radio show. She holds a B.A. in International Studies from Universidad Central de Venezuela and is a native Spanish speaker.
Manny Orozco, Digital Director and Special Aide to the Mayor
A Colombian-American and Miami native, Manny Orozco served as Deputy Campaign Manager on Mayor Levine Cava's campaign. He has led youth outreach, community organizing, and communications for local, state, and national campaigns and served as the first Florida Director for NextGen America, developing and executing a statewide youth program to engage millennials across Florida. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Central Florida.
Travon “Tony” Pierre, Public Affairs Coordinator
Travon Pierre, a South Florida native and Haitian-Puerto Rican American, has a background in community organizing at the local and state levels, and will help coordinate Haitian and African-American media and outreach within the Mayor's office. He previously worked with the Miami Children's Museum and served on the Miami-Dade County Youth Commission.
Alex Spillis, Speechwriter
Alex Spillis is a Miami native with experience in policy, advocacy, and communications. He holds a B.S. in Economics from Florida State University and is currently completing his Masters in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University.
