Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava to Join Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to Announce Groundbreaking of New State of Art Drinking Water Laboratory

On Friday, March 19th, Mayor Levine Cava and the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) will announce the groundbreaking of the new drinking water laboratory at the Alexander Orr Water Treatment Plant. The $7.5 million project will result in a lab nearly three times its current size and allow for the department to expand its vital sampling and testing services ensuring that our drinking water meets and/or exceeds all local, state, and federal requirements.

In addition to utilizing sustainable and resilient construction components, the new lab will be a LEED-certified facility. Given its critical role in utility operations and ensuring water quality, the facility meets Florida Building Code criteria to withstand severe hurricane and other climatic events thus ensuring uninterrupted operations. The laboratory project is anticipated to be completed by June of 2022.
