Camera footage leads to arrest for illegal dumping in northwest Miami-Dade County
The Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste is committed to working alongside the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and other County partners to prevent and deter illegal dumping in our community. Camera footage led to the arrest of one member of a duo caught allegedly illegally dumping in northwest Miami-Dade County.
The pair was implicated in three alleged incidences of illegal dumping that took place near NW 23 Avenue and NW 99 Street. All three incidents took place in the daytime, shortly after noon.
The case was referred to MDPD, resulting in the arrest of one of the alleged dumpers for felony violation of the Florida Litter Law. The duo indicated that they would also clean up the debris they dumped.
The DSWM reminds would-be violators that illegal dumping is a crime in Miami-Dade County and anyone caught doing it is subject to a fine, vehicle seizure and possible arrest. The DSWM further reminds any would-be violator that fine amounts were increased significantly by the Board of County Commissioners last year to deter illegal dumping.
Miami-Dade residents who witness an illegal dumping incident in progress should call 911. Never confront someone who is dumping. Instead, try to get the vehicle license plate number or at least a description of the vehicle used to commit the crime.
If an instance of illegal dumping has already happened, call 311. Illegal dumping can also be reported using the MDC Solid Waste mobile application for Apple iPhone and Android smartphone users. It’s available for download free of charge in the iTunes and Google Play stores.
