Peak mosquito season preparedness press conference Thursday, April 29
South Florida’s rainy season looks to have arrived, meaning increased mosquito activity is sure to follow. In order to better-prepare residents, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will deliver remarks about the County's ongoing mosquito control efforts, and offer residents advice on what to do to prevent mosquito breeding and how to protect themselves from mosquito bites at a press conference next week.
The address is scheduled for Thursday, April 29, 2021, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center. The Mayor will take questions from local media. Miami-Dade County Solid Waste Management Department Director Michael Fernandez and Mosquito Control and Habitat Management Division Director Dr. William Petrie will be on hand to answer questions as well.
The Mosquito Control Division conducts mosquito abatement activities year-round, including responding to resident requests for mosquito inspections, proactive larviciding and monitoring an array of 300-plus countywide mosquito surveillance traps.
The County also works closely with the Florida Department of Health, University of Miami's Public Health Science Department, Florida International University's Aedes aegypti Genome Group, and the University of Florida's Florida Medical Entomology Lab on disease prevention and research efforts.
