Adopt-a-Tree returns September 25th at one location only

The program that helps make Miami-Dade County greener is giving away free trees to eligible residents this year at one location and one date only.

MIAMI ( September 24, 2021 )

Registration is now open for Adopt-a-Tree, the free tree giveaway program that will take place Saturday, September 25th, at Camp Matecumbe, located at 13841 SW 120 St. Miami, FL.

Single-family and duplex homeowners that live in Miami-Dade County qualify to receive two free trees. They will be able to choose from a variety of tree species, such as sugar apple (annon), soursop (guanábana), lychee, Simpson stopper, Jamaican caper, Mexican alvaradoa and crabwood.

"Expanding our community's tree canopy program will be key to our ongoing fight against extreme heat and was identified by our residents as a necessary policy through our Thrive305 survey this spring," said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. "Miami-Dade's Adopt-a-Tree initiative empowers residents to participate in this critical initiative while also giving them the opportunity to spruce up their properties. I encourage all eligible residents to register today!"

This is a great opportunity for homeowners to replenish their tree canopy, increase their property values, and help fight climate change in the process. Nationwide surveys show that having trees on your property provide more than just natural beauty – along with a well-landscaped yard, the presence of trees can increase the value of a home by 7% to 19%. And adding trees and increasing our tree canopy is a key part of our Climate Action Strategy, which aims to cut greenhouse gases by 50% by 2030, and our efforts to combat the impacts of extreme heat.

The Adopt-a-Tree program was created in 2001 to help increase the tree canopy of Miami-Dade County. More than 200,000 trees have been given away within the community in the 19 years the program has been running.

Residents can visit the Adopt-a-Tree website for more information and eligibility requirements or by calling 311.
