Miami Dade Mayor's statement on her continued commitment to South Dade's economic strength
This morning, the Board of County Commissioners voted to support Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava's first veto to continue with an economic development project in South Dade that integrates an entertainment district with additional transportation options:
"As a former South Dade Commissioner and current South Dade resident, I personally understand and champion economic development in the region. South Dade represents the future of our county – it is our fastest growing region and deserves world-class economic development, entertainment, and transit options that will bring jobs and investment to the area.
Throughout my tenure as Commissioner, I worked hard to develop South Dade's economy - through creating grants and technical support programs for small businesses, advocating for transit that will connect residents to jobs, and fighting for South Dade's fair share of county resources.
I also understand South Dade's need for better transit options and traffic relief. Last year, the County broke ground on the South Dade Bus Rapid Transit Corridor and I am committed to ensuring its speedy completion so residents in the South will finally have access to real public transit. The administration will ensure any transit facility is state of the art, clean, quiet, and modern. This is personally important to me as a resident of South Dade.
My commitment to the South remains steadfast as Mayor. Since taking office, I have worked with the two South Dade Commissioners to bring more opportunity to the region. Commissioner Cohen Higgins is making sure Miami-Dade's tech boom reaches all parts of the county - including the South - and I am proud to partner with her as she brings together industry leaders to maximize our tech infrastructure and bring new opportunities.
Commissioner McGhee's passion for South Dade is lifelong. He and I share a vision of a thriving South Dade. I commend him for his unwavering commitment to the South and I am committed to partnering with the Commissioner to bring to life an economic agenda that will bring historic investments to South Dade.
I believe there remains great opportunity to accomplish our mutual objectives and I look forward to continuing discussions with the Board for a better path forward for the residents of South Dade."
