Cultural events highlight the importance of the fight against climate change

Video installation and Arts and Activism Speaker Series April 1 and April 3

In an effort to create greater awareness about issues related to climate change and resiliency, the Miami-Dade County Office of Resilience and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs are highlighting the work of the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta, the German cultural center for the U.S. Southeast, the Consulate General of Germany, and the Coral Gables United Church of Christ (UCC) for the video installation project “Tropic Ice meets Pastoral – A Dialog between Places affected by Climate Change”.

The cinematic event, at the creative intersection of arts and resiliency, features Barbara Dombrowski's moving climate change photography set to Beethoven’s 6th Symphony in Miami. Dombrowski is a renowned German photographer and visual artist who dedicates her work to places affected by climate change.

April 1, 2022, “Tropic Ice meets Pastoral” Video Installation

Coral Gables UCC, 3010 De Soto Blvd., Coral Gables, at 7 p.m.

Dombrowski’s “Tropic Ice” photographs are set to the music of Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, his 6th symphony known as an “expression of nature”.

Dombrowski speaks about the connections between artistic creativity and social justice in Miami-Dade. The lecture will take place both in-person and on Zoom. The artist will attend via Zoom.

The Miami-Dade County Office of Resilience's mission is to lead Miami-Dade County to a resilient and environmentally sustainable future by identifying vulnerabilities, coordinating stakeholders, and facilitating innovative solutions. The Office of Resilience works closely with the Department of Cultural Affairs which launched its Arts Resilient 305 initiative to increase awareness about the impact of climate change and the importance of resiliency.
