Miami-Dade Parks and Junior Dolphins kick off NFL Spring Flag Football season at Gwen Cherry Park
The Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, in collaboration with the Miami Dolphins Junior Dolphins program, presents the first annual Spring NFL Flag Football League kick-off event, taking place on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at Gwen Cherry Park, located at 7090 NW 22 Ave., Miami. Funded by the Junior Dolphins program, this initiative will work to expand flag football opportunities for youth, ages 6-14, in Miami-Dade.
More than 200 youth, representing Parks locations across the County, will participate during Saturday’s kick-off. Flag football events will include four (4) fields of skills, drills, and games. The Miami Dolphins Junior Dolphins program will host a fun zone with inflatables and activities for the student athletes. Check-in begins at 9 a.m.
A total of 26 teams representing 19 Miami-Dade Parks have signed up this season to play flag football as part of the Parks Department’s Sports Development Program. The program aims to expose 200 youth to free sports activities that will encourage them to stay physically active, develop sportsmanship skills, and work to improve their grades in school.
As part of this initiative flag leagues and its participants will receive reversible jerseys, flags, and footballs, as well as trophies and medals provided by the Junior Dolphins program.
The children participating in the NFL Spring Flag Football kick-off event must be registered in Miami-Dade Parks’ Fit2Play or Sports Development afterschool programs at a Miami-Dade community or neighborhood park. The programs provide accessible and inclusive sporting experiences for kids who might not otherwise have an opportunity to play sports.
