Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava Statement on the passage of the 2022-23 county budget

Today, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners voted to pass the county’s 2022-23 budget, including Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s proposed priorities. 
 
Following the vote, the mayor released the following statement: 
 
“I thank the Board of County Commissioners for this historic vote and all the residents of Miami-Dade County who helped craft this year’s budget. Through a record 27 budget town halls and community conversations all across our county, we created a balanced, compassionate, and fiscally responsible budget – setting the lowest combined tax rate since 1982 while making a historic investment in solutions to the affordable housing crisis.  
 
“This budget invests over $500 million to build new housing people can afford, create more pathways to homeownership, and provide immediate relief to struggling residents including renters and homeowners. At the same time, the budget makes critical investments in enhancing public safety, expanding transit, protecting the environment and reducing our carbon footprint, and more – to build a stronger, safer, and more resilient Miami-Dade.   
 
“I am proud of the budget we crafted to take on our community’s greatest challenges. Our work to implement these critical programs and services now begins as we continue working to ensure residents in every corner of the county can live, work, and thrive in Miami-Dade, now and in the future.”
