Miami-Dade Transit's annual toy drive brings joy to hundreds of children in our community who would otherwise go without a holiday present during this special season.
This year, MDT's toy drive returns for the 15th consecutive year, encouraging transit riders to donate a new, unwrapped toy valued at $5 or more.
Between today, Dec. 12, 2011 and Thursday, Dec. 15th MDT staff will be at the following six Metrorail stations:
- Dadeland South
- Dadeland North
- South Miami
- Government Center
- Civic Center
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza
"We want to help ensure that every child in Miami-Dade County has a toy for the holidays," said Miami-Dade Transit Director Ysela Llort. "During this season of giving, it is important for us to remember those in need and to be as generous as possible."
On Dec. 15th, the toy drive will end with Radio Caracol 1260 AM broadcasting live from the Government Center Metrorail station (111 NW First Street, second level, next to the Transit Kiosk) between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. The public is encouraged to stop by and join the fun as Radio Caracol will hand out prizes and giveaways to those participating in the toy drive.
For more information about the toy drive, the public can visit MDT's website at www.miamidade.gov/transit, or call 311 (TDD 305-499-8971).
