Miami-Dade Transit breaks Ground on Pedestrian Overpass
The overpass will provide a safe crossing from University Metrorail station
(MIAMI, April 20, 2014) – On Thursday, April 23, 2015, Miami-Dade Transit will break ground on the pedestrian overpass at the University Metrorail station.
The overpass is designed to provide a safer crossing for pedestrians and bicyclists that wish to cross the heavily traveled U.S. 1 at Mariposa Court in the City of Coral Gables. Elevators and stairs will provide access to the overpass that will span almost 124 feet over U.S. 1.
“I am pleased that with the assistance of our transportation partners at the state and federal level, the City of Coral Gables, and the support of the University of Miami, we are now ready to break ground on this important project,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.
Funding for the project of approximately $6 million comes from County transportation surtax funds, the Florida Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2016.
