Miami-Dade Transit teams up with its regional partners for "Dump the Pump" day

Take the pledge to take transit on June 18th for a chance to win a month of free rides on public transportation

(MIAMI, June 16, 2015) – With gas prices starting to climb again, and South Florida’s roadways as clogged as ever, Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) is encouraging drivers to leave their cars at home and “Dump the Pump” on Thursday, June 18, 2015.

MDT, along with its regional transit partners, once again have come together to promote Dump the Pump Day to remind residents and visitors of the many benefits of using public transportation. Last year, transit riders took approximately 110 million trips to get around using MDT services.

South Floridians can enter to win a 1-Month pass on MDT, Broward County Transit, Tri-Rail or Palm Tran by visiting http://www.1800234ride.com/dump_the_pump, or by calling South Florida Commuter Services at 1-800-234-RIDE and pledging to use transit instead of their cars on Thursday, June 18th.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), National Dump the Pump Day first started in June 2006 when gas prices were nearly $3 per gallon. The idea of Dump the Pump Day is to emphasize the economic benefits of public transportation.  According to the latest APTA Transit Savings Report, a two-person household in Miami can save an average of $896 a month by using transit instead of driving and downsizing to one vehicle.

Trip planning for Dump the Pump Day is available at www.miamidade.gov/transit, or by calling 305-891-3131, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Let public transportation take you there for less.

It is the policy of Miami-Dade County to comply with all of the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The facility is accessible. For sign language interpreters, assistive listening devices or materials in accessible format, please call (305) 375-3566 at least five days in advance.
