Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department encourages you to take a Water Quiz and Be Water Wise during Water Conservation Month
(MIAMI, April 10, 2015) – Is your family and home water wise? After taking a quick quiz about your family’s water usage, you will be given some answers and tips that will take you to the top of the water conservation class.
Visit our website and select the water calculator and answer some questions about your water habits and appliances and you will learn ways to not only save water and energy, but conserve your family’s budget, as well.
For instance, did you know that just by keeping the faucet on while you brush your teeth for approximately three minutes at a time, you are wasting 12 gallons of water? That represents 13,129 gallons per person, per year. Taking shorter showers and using high efficiency showerheads also will cut down on wasted water. Replacing old toilets with high-efficiency toilets also will dramatically cut down on each household’s consumption.
Changing little habits is definitely more than a drop in the bucket. Miami-Dade County residents have made some significant improvements in water consumption by taking advantage of the department’s conservation tips and rebates. In just the last five years, Miami-Dade County residents have reduced their per capita water consumption from 158 gallons per day to 134 gallons per day.
