The Lobbyist Online Registration and Information System is used to register lobbyists and principals and provide searchable listings of those registered.
Lobbyist Registration is required within five days of being retained by a client or before engaging in any lobbying activity. Registration renewal is required by January 15th of each year. This online service allows lobbyists to register and pay the fee ($490) associated with lobbyist registration.
Lobbyists are defined as all persons, firms, entities, or corporations that are employed, designated, or retained by a principal, with or without compensation, or that contract with a third party for economic consideration to perform lobbying activities on behalf of a principal.
Included in the definition of a lobbyist are principals that lobby, as well as any employee that has been designated by the principal to perform lobbying activities on behalf of the principal.
Prior to conducting any lobbying activity, all principals must authorize a lobbyist to engage or participate in lobbying activities on behalf of the principal and must describe the specific issue, agenda item or procurement matter that is the subject of the lobbying.
Both the principal and the lobbyist must also declare the principal has not offered and the lobbyist has not agreed to accept any contingency or success fee (Section 2-11.1(s)(7) of the Miami-Dade County Code). Click
