Reentry Services

Welcome to the Miami-Dade Corrections Rehabilitation Department (MDCR) Reentry Program Services Bureau (RPSB). Our primary focus is on rehabilitation, aiming to transform criminal thinking and reduce criminal behavior by equipping individuals in our custody with the necessary skills to navigate the challenges of reentry and recovery successfully.

At RPSB, we constantly seek effective and efficient ways to learn and implement best practices, combining flexibility, creativity, and technical precision. Our goal is to assist offenders in making positive choices and changes in their thinking and behavior while in our custody. To achieve this, we have established a dedicated reentry unit consisting of Correctional Counselors responsible for preparing the sentenced population for reintegration into the community. They work closely with each individual to create a tailored reentry plan that includes case management and action plans to ensure a smooth transition back into society. Our Correctional Counselors continue to support and manage offenders until their release, making referrals to external services as needed.

Collaboration is a key aspect of our work. RPSB actively engages with County departments and external community organizations to ensure continuity of services for individuals released from MDCR's custody. By working together, we strive to provide a comprehensive network of support that facilitates successful reentry.

Aligned with our department's mission statement, our primary focus is to enhance offenders' skills and strategies for a successful return to their families and communities while reducing criminal thinking and behavioral patterns. We deliver motivational and skills-building interventions through individual and group counseling sessions, maximizing their effectiveness. Motivational interventions assist individuals in developing a change plan and increasing their confidence in the possibility of change. Our Correctional Counselors act as catalysts, planting the seeds of transformation, but it is ultimately up to the individual to nurture their growth and embrace change. Offenders are consistently reminded that the choice to change lies with them, and they are responsible and accountable for their decisions and behavior. In essence, RPSB empowers individuals with the necessary skills for long-term behavior change, ultimately resulting in a lower risk of recidivism.

We are dedicated to the successful reintegration and rehabilitation of individuals in our custody. By offering a comprehensive range of services, collaborating with external partners, and instilling a sense of responsibility and accountability, the Miami-Dade Corrections Rehabilitation Department Reentry Program Services Bureau strives to create a safer and more prosperous community for all.
