Future-Ready Infrastructure

Mayor Levine Cava has made historic and unprecedented investments in our infrastructure, including in our airport and seaport – the County’s largest economic engines-, to make them future ready for continued growth and development.

- Shattered passenger and cargo growth records, on track to serve 57-58 million people and reach 3 million tons of cargo by the end of 2024.
- Invested $9 billion in MIA’s Future-Ready Modernization plan to enhance critical infrastructure and ensure continued maintenance:
  - Replacing all bathrooms by 2025
  - Modernizing 616 elevators, escalators, and moving walkways
  - Installing 126 new passenger energy-efficient boarding bridges
  - Building a new parking lot with up to 2,200 spaces
  - Building a new airport hotel with 4XX bedrooms
  - Expanding the North and South terminals, fully renovating the Central Terminal
- Launched I-AM-MIA campaign, deploying lightning crew members to better assist travelers and hiring 150+ additional staff to faster address maintenance.
- Became the first major cruise port on the eastern seaboard to launch shore power, which allows up to five ships to plug into our power grid while docked, reducing emissions.
- Opened two new state-of-the-art cruise terminals and renovated one existing terminal.
- Received $45 million from the Florida Department of Transportation for critical projects including passenger boarding bridges, cargo equipment, stormwater management, and enhanced security.
- Secured funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation to expand the port’s rail system and handle cargo more sustainably.
- Received $100M from the the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bridge Investment Program for the Venetian Causeway Bridge Reconstruction Project.
- Secured nearly $17 million in 2024 alone in federal earmarks for road safety, advancing the county’s ‘Vision Zero’ projects to reduce all traffic fatalities and severe injuries to zero.
- Moved Rickenbacker Master Plan along to 90% complete, which includes safety enhancements, bridge rehabilitation, and shoreline protection, and Park Zone Master Plan to 95% complete, which identifies traffic calming and other safety countermeasures adjacent to Miami-Dade parks.
