Mayor Levine Cava has worked to expand and upgrade our county’s public transit system, increase ridership, and invest in innovative technology, to increase quality of life and better connect all our residents to opportunity.

- Significantly advanced the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Program – in collaboration with the Board of County Commissioners and our state and federal partners – which includes rapid transit corridors to expand our transit system and connect communities:
  - South Corridor: Moved forward the completion of the South Dade TransitWay, the nation’s longest all-electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, that will offer train-like service between Florida City and Dadeland; includes the South Dade Transit Operations Center, the largest 100% zero-emissions transit facility of its kind in the nation, to house buses and support to the TransitWay
  - Northeast Corridor: Received proposed preliminary funding of $264 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the Northeast Rapid Transit Corridor
  - North Corridor: Received confirmation of $500,000 federal earmarked funds for planning stages of the North Corridor as well as $8 million for the predevelopment of East-West Corridor
- Redesigned the County’s bus network for the first time in nearly 40 years, increasing the frequency and weekend service of our bus network to get more people to more places.
- Due to redesign, saw an 8% increase in bus ridership, a 14% increase in productivity, and 27% drop in cost per passenger.
- As a result of network improvements and novel land-use changes, MetroRail is leading the U.S. in post-COVID heavy rail recovery surpassing rail systems in New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, and Los Angeles.
- Launched a transformative upgrade project for the nearly 40-year-old Metromover system to improve reliability and availability
- Began a complete renovation of all Metrobus passenger shelters to improve pedestrian comfort and accessibility, installing upwards of 300 new shelters, 300 trash containers, 300 illumination systems, and 700 bicycle racks
- Began upgrading all conveyances.
