All in a day's work
Animal Control Specialist Garson Dupuy recently responded to Selencia Johnson's call. She had a kitten stuck inside her car motor and could not get it out.
"The City of Miami Fire Rescue came on the scene and told me that they could not help me save a kitten trapped in my engine compartment without taking my car apart," Johnson said. "I called 311 to get in touch with Animal Services. They offered to help with the kitten that had fallen out of the car, but could make no promises about the kitten still stuck there."
"Mr. Dupuy arrived on the scene and assisted with the injured kitten. He then proceeded to assist with trying to save the kitten that was stuck inside. With his exceptional skills, patience and commitment, he succeeded," added Johnson.
"All the kitten needed was a way out. By removing a piece of plastic that allowed him to see light and an exit, it came out with a little coaxing," Dupuy explained. "We got lucky and had a good outcome."
"I was just doing my job," Dupuy said. "The kitten and its sibling came back to animal services where they could be cared for and adopted."
For 22 years, Dupuy has been helping to protect and care for those pets transitioning through the Animal Services Department to permanent homes. "I love what I do and find serving the community incredibly rewarding," said Dupuy.
When not in rescue mode, Dupuy educates the public and ensures animals are treated well. He encourages everyone to do their part and spay and neuter pets.
"The needs at the shelter are great. Our County family is great. They are dedicated to our residents. I would encourage them to volunteer and consider fostering. This support would be so welcome and have impact," said Dupuy.
Dupuy enjoys spending time with his kids and family when not at work. He is known for the best dad jokes.
