Animal care specialist helps lost and abandoned pets

Kimberly Lamb has been caring for our County's shelter pets for 5 years. Throughout her time with Animal Services as an animal care specialist she has demonstrated her devotion for our community's lost and abandoned pets.

It is not hard to fall in love with puppies, but Lamb's passion is for the pets that are often overlooked, mostly the dogs with behavioral challenges.

"Kimberly Lamb is an amazing person and incredibly compassionate employee. With animals, she shines. It is so obvious this is her passion and something she cares about from the bottom of her heart,” said supervisor Savannah Alcerro. “She sees the good in all animals and goes the extra mile to give them the best quality of life, love and care, diligently working on finding them a positive outcome during their stay at ASD.”

You can often find her walking the dogs and taking the extra time to work with them in the play yards. Whether it is quietly and gently working on teaching a frightened pet to trust, or sitting outside a kennel tossing them treats to help reduce their apprehension in allowing people near them, she works on giving them the confidence and social skills to help prepare them for their new families.

With the public coming to the shelter to find a new furry family member, she takes the same approach. Lamb goes above and beyond every single day to ensure she provides excellent service. To her coworkers, she's the same; she has taught skills to so many people and allowed them to gain confidence when working with dogs that have behavior concerns. Lamb is the type of employee that makes a manager search for new ways to say thank you, and new resources and opportunities to share.

“We are incredibly grateful for her work, and I think that pales in comparison to gratitude of the hundreds of pets who's lives she has touched," said Alcerro.
