Wade Jones has been with the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) for 16 years. As the section chief of bus operations, Jones plays a critical role in managing a comprehensive division, ensuring safe, reliable transportation service delivery across our community. His passion for helping others shines through as his favorite aspect of the job: assisting customers and fellow employees.
"I enjoy helping our folks navigate all aspects of their personal and work lives to be most successful," Jones said. "I keep in mind the human needs of our employees and look for opportunities to support and motivate them to do their best."
Born and raised in Miami, Jones is deep-rooted in the community he serves. A proud Miami Central High School graduate, he holds a BA in Organizational Leadership from St. Thomas University. He began his career in the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant.
Over the years, Jones has demonstrated exceptional leadership and organizational skills, pivotal in his various roles within DTPW, including bus operator, bus traffic controller, lead bus traffic controller and superintendent of bus operations.
As chief of bus operations, he oversees a vast team of 650 employees, including three superintendents, support staff and bus operators. Jones enforces all administrative functions, policies, and procedures, ensuring the highest operational standards and passenger safety.
"Finding different ways to help our employees sometimes makes my job more challenging," he said. "But, it is also meaningful and often the highlight of my day to contribute in some way to making their lives better."
An avid reader, Jones enjoys playing checkers. His involvement extends to various professional affiliations, including his current role as president of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) Miami Chapter, his past contributions as vice chairman of the executive board at Reeves Health Clinic, and as credentials chairman of the Miami-Dade Public Schools PTA/PTSA Executive Board.
Jones' passion for service is aptly summarized by his favorite quote from Martin Luther King: "Everybody can be great because anybody can serve."
