RER's Jorge del Risco helps keep businesses and citizens safe

Jorge del Risco has been working with Miami-Dade County since December 2021. He is currently working under the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER), Division of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) as a Pollution Specialist in the Water and Wastewater Section of Pollution Control FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease).

Jorge earned his master’s degree in engineering at FIU. As a Pollution Specialist he conducts inspections on grease interceptors for restaurants that are under construction or need to change a grease interceptor within Miami-Dade County and ensures it is built per DERM plans. A grease trap interceptor filters all grease and oils before they enter wastewater from the sink and end up in the sanitary sewer, which protects the safety of citizens including property owners and their businesses from wastewater overspill that can contaminate the streets and sidewalks.

Del Risco loves that he can serve and protect the citizens of Miami-Dade County from a wastewater overspill which is a biohazard. He also loves to be able to assist restaurant owners and property owners comply to keep their businesses up and running in a safe manner. He is pleased that organizations such as Publix will take all necessary steps to assist in protecting the environment. Jorge is motivated to go to work every day as part of the RER FOG team to receive smiles from contractors and restaurant owners who comply and can operate their businesses safely in Miami-Dade County.
