Sowing the seeds of greatness with the Greater Miami Service Corps
Greater Miami Service Corps (GMSC) Spotlights Andre Miller, Team Supervisor and YouthBuild Construction Instructor for his commitment to improving the lives of young people and his outstanding work ethic. When the pandemic began in March 2020, Mr. Miller pivoted in working with his colleagues, project sponsors, and our young people. Mr. Miller kept GMSC youth engaged and off the streets while meeting the contractual demands of projects.
Due to the nature of Corps projects, frontline supervisors like Mr. Miller were unable to work from home. Throughout the pandemic, he led GMSC crews and young people in maintaining a safe work environment while completing service projects countywide. His efforts contributed to the Division meeting its financial revenue forecasts and training goals. “Mr. Miller has a calm demeanor, looks at challenges as opportunities, and is always willing to go above and beyond to achieve project goals and deadlines. He is a mentor and example to the young people under his supervision,” said CAHSD Director Sonia Grice.
Many of GMSC’s graduates have gained employment with Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami, and other major organizations as a result of the skills honed under Mr. Miller's direction. “A Corps alumnus recently received her construction trainer certification. This achievement speaks tremendously of Mr. Miller's skills as a trainer helping our young people attain their dreams,” said Debbie Dorsett, GMSC Director. Andre Miller demonstrates the county's slogan of "Delivering Excellence," and is to be commended for his dedication to improving the lives of Miami-Dade County youth. This is a great example of sowing seeds of greatness and empowering community.
