Raising the bar through hard work and dedication
From working on strategic master plans and conducting business reviews to submitting budget requests and RFQs, Eric Kaminsky, Zoo Miami’s Business Manager with the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces (PROS) Department, is always raising the bar.
A graduate of University of Florida, Kaminsky began his career with PROS in 2003 as a Parks Service Aide before joining Zoo Miami, then Miami Metro Zoo in 2004, where he’s held various roles, including Human Resources Manager and Zoo Business Manager. Despite his significant contributions, Kaminsky prefers to stay out of the limelight.
“Eric is the unsung hero,” said Diana Vega, Zoo Miami’s Chief of Operations. “He is always diligently working behind the scenes, ensuring the budget is balanced, vendors are paid and that all the complexities of running one of the largest zoos in the United States are streamlined and in compliance with both Miami-Dade County regulations and the various associations Zoo Miami is accredited by, such as the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.”
Kaminsky's most recent accomplishments include working with the Zoo Miami Foundation on a grant that awarded the zoo $7.4 million, funding much-needed improvements to the zoo. He also played a vital role in updating a solution that allowed the zoo to increase an outdated budget allocation from 2001. This adjustment helped the zoo address rising costs for animal food and pharmaceuticals. Currently, Kaminsky is collaborating with various County departments on an initiative designed to improve the guest eCommerce experience. This initiative will not only save the zoo $300,000 annually but also increase operational efficiency and enhance reporting capabilities.
Kaminsky's role is key to the zoo’s overall success. From overseeing the complexities of financial planning to working on operational improvements, he ensures the smooth functioning of a world-class zoo. His strategic contributions help Zoo Miami stay on track for long-term success, all while maintaining compliance and aligning with the zoo's mission.
When not managing the business aspects of the zoo, Kaminsky enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He stays active by playing sports and is an avid fan of his beloved Philadelphia Eagles.
