Working to find solutions and protect the public

Helping others requires a passion for service. Patricia Del Valle, a lien collection specialist at the Department of Regulatory & Economic Resources, says it is more like a way of life.

“Helping others is not something you start and stop with your workday,” Del Valle said. “I want to be on call and available to assist anyone, anywhere. Doing so is important and fulfilling for me.”

“Where I work, residents need my attention and assistance," she continued. "They are usually concerned and unsure of the process to resolve their situation. I listen and explain everything with the goal of growing their knowledge and understanding. I try to make all the options available clear. When a citation is issued and a lien develops, correcting the situation is what we focus on. It’s important for the safety of our community.”

Del Valle recently impressed Councilman Johnny G. Farias who visited with a team working through several dozen cases.

“Normally I don't make a big deal on someone doing their job, but when a person goes beyond to make sure that a customer or resident is clear and satisfied with what they came to resolve, then I have to mention it," Farias said. "Her name is Patricia Del Valle and let me tell you she was great. As my staff was trying to resolve a bunch of expired permits and other issues I was standing there and was amazed at how Del Valle patiently helped us and made sure we understood everything."

Del Valle didn’t recall meeting the Councilman. She did remember working with the group and helping them prioritize the list they brought in to resolve.

“They needed assistance and I was there to help them,” she said. “It’s what I am here to do for all our customers.”

Since joining the County in 2000, Del Valle has worked to help our residents. She started at Team Metro University outreaching and connecting people with our many services. When she joined the code enforcement group in 2008, she developed her expertise with liens. For many years, she also volunteered and supported the Elections Department and often participates when employees are called into action with food drives, toy drives and other events.

“I’m very proud of our County and what we do every day," Del Valle expressed.

Not surprisingly, she also enjoys helping our furry friends. Dogs to be precise. She is currently fostering four pooches. For fun and relaxation, she enjoys watching movies. She calls herself a movie freak and her co-workers rely on her for the latest reviews.

“I am always courteous with our customers,” she said. “I work to find solutions and protect the public with every case.”
