Apply for the Small Business Relief Grant July 17 - 31
On July 6, 2023, the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) approved a resolution establishing a Small Business Relief Grant (SBRG) in the amount of $5,000,000. SBRG aims to provide financial support and assistance to certified Small Business Enterprise (SBE) as a result of increased cost of materials, labor, or fees while providing products or services on a Miami Dade County contract between March 1, 2020 – Dec. 31, 2022.
This grant will be administered by Small Business Development (SBD), a division of the Internal Services Department. The certified SBE firm had to have experienced financial hardships, caused by economic factors including supply chain and inflation challenges that raised the cost of materials, labor, and fees unexpectedly during the pandemic.
SBE applicants will be able to receive one grant issuance of 50% of escalated cost incurred and grants will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis until funds are exhausted. Eligibility documents include:
- Most current tax return
- State of Florida license
- Current Miami-Dade County Local Business Tax Receipt (LBT)
- SBRG agreement form
- W9
- Certificate of corporate status from the State of Florida Division of Corporations
Grant amount being requested must be accompanied with supporting financial documentation. Examples consist of:
- A $25,000 dollar invoice was submitted to the County to cover the cost of materials, however only $15,000 was paid due to what was agreed upon in the contract. The remaining $10,000 was not paid due to the cost increase of materials. Supporting documentation would need to be provided showing the $25,000 invoice and $15,000 payment received from the County to support the grant amount requested.
- County Contracts with responsible wages may have seen an increase depending on the time your service or trade was performed, thus due to the timing of these increases, it may have resulted in having to pay more in labor cost. Payroll documentation would need to be provided showing the cost of how much was paid prior to the increase and after the increase to support the grant amount requested.
- Invoice submitted that did not account for any County fees.
Additionally, the SBRG agreement form will require a 2,000 word or less writeup fully explaining financial hardship.
All applications must be completed and submitted with all documentation in-person only to the Stephen P. Clark Building located at 111 NW First Street, Lobby, Miami, FL 33128 between the hours of 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday starting July 17 to July 31, 2023 (excluding weekends).
The applications will be received by staff, time stamped and summitted for processing. SBD will be reviewing and processing all the applications during the month of August. All grant funds will be approved and disseminated to the grantees starting the first week of September 2023. If any additional information and/or documents are needed SBD will contact the firm. There will be no need to contact SBD regarding the status of your grant until the first week of September 2023.
SBD understands that not all SBEs are registered as a vendor with Miami-Dade County because many have served on County projects as a subcontractor/consultant. In cases like these, SBD encourages firms to register as County vendors. It is a critical component of the grant funding process. If your application is approved and your firm is not registered as a vendor with Miami-Dade County, your payment will be delayed.
If you are not a registered Miami-Dade County vendor, please do so as soon as possible. You can verify and/or register at the Vendor Payments page.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact SBD at 305-375-3111 or [email protected].
