Doggie date for a day
Pawventures Foster Fieldtrips is an innovative program that allows everyone to interact with a new furry friend. Getting dogs out of the shelter for a few hours on a field trip can improve their overall well-being, increase adoption chances and help our shelter get a more well-rounded snapshot of dogs' behavior.
When you take a special dog out for the day, you create a fun memory and provide a man's best friend a chance to explore a new and exciting setting. Your report also gives the shelter more information about the dog's likes, dislikes and personality in a real-life situation, making it easier to match the pet well with a future forever family.
Field trips can include boat trips, walking through one of the dog friendly County parks or the neighborhood coffee shop. Recent excursions have included a day at the dog beach, a swim from the boat and a ride in the car.
Pawventures participants can take a shelter dog out seven days a week to enjoy a day away from the shelter with an appointment. You can make your appointment online or by calling 311.
We request that you adhere to the pick-up and drop-off times:
- Pick-up times are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and Saturday and Sunday from 9 -10 a.m.
- Drop-off times are Monday-Friday before 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday before 3 p.m.
Pawventures participants must be 18 years or older and present a current government-issued picture identification with proof of current address or a valid Driver's License with current address.
Portraits of the dog out and about enjoying a dog day are priceless. Pawventures participants are encouraged to share their field trip photos on our social media channels. Nothing says relatability for a potential adopter as looking at a picture or watching a video of a smiling dog on a boat, swimming at the beach, rolling in the grass at the park or snuggling on the couch.
Field trips often turn out to be forever trips for many dogs. Some meet their new families while out with volunteers or shortly after, thanks to social media and the exposure.
