Park and Recreation Month

July is National Park and Recreation Month, and Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department is celebrating with this year's National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) theme, “Where You Belong!

This month is the perfect time to see all that Miami-Dade Parks has to offer, highlighting the vital role that park and recreation professionals play in fostering a sense of belonging in their community, bringing people together and providing welcoming and inclusive programs, essential services for all ages and abilities and accessible spaces to build meaningful connections.

Miami-Dade County Parks will kick off July’s National Park & Recreation Month with a grand 4th of July Celebration at Tropical Park, celebrating liberty, resilience and the bonds that tie us together as a community.

Spend a good ole’ fashion day at the park with family and friends. Enjoy live entertainment presented by Univision, explore a variety of food trucks and have a blast in the family fun zone. The event culminates with a spectacular fireworks and drone show.

Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces provides an array of parks, urban spaces, recreational programs, and events, like the July 4th Celebration, for people of all ages to enjoy. These services create a sense of belonging in our Miami-Dade County community by connecting people to programs and amenities that advance health equity, improve health outcomes, unify a community and enhance quality of life.

Let's come together this year and show the world just how much parks and recreation mean to Miami-Dade County. It’s where you belong!

About Us

We build memorable experiences and communities through well-designed parks and open spaces that are efficient, accessible, engaging and aesthetically pleasing, guided by our Parks Open Space Master Plan.

We offer year-round park and recreation programs for local children, adults and people with disabilities. Camps are held in the spring and summer during public school breaks. After-school activities are focused on fitness, nutrition and wellness, and developing an appreciation of nature, science and the cultural arts.

We also maintain the median strips, road shoulders and causeways for County roadways, busways, Metrorail and Metromover.
