Miami-Dade County to showcase new electric buses and new bus passenger shelters
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) will host a press conference this Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 10 a.m., for the roll out of Miami-Dade's new 40-foot, battery-powered, electric bus fleet and also highlight DTPW’s new Bus Passenger Shelter Program.
The electrification of Miami-Dade County's Metrobus fleet is both advancing the County’s climate action strategy by reducing emissions and creating cost savings for transit riders and county residents alike. With the purchase of 75 Proterra ZX5 battery-electric buses, Miami-Dade County will operate one of the nation's largest electric bus fleets, with approximately 10 percent of DTPW's Metrobus fleet consisting of zero-emission vehicles.
The Bus Passenger Shelter Program includes the installation new bus shelters, trash containers, bicycle racks, improved pedestrian accessibility to and from bus shelters, and a complete renovation of the existing bus passenger shelter inventory installed within Miami-Dade County's Metrobus service area. The program will ensure that all new and existing bus passenger shelters are well maintained, safe, clean, well-illuminated, and appealing for all users.
Media will have access to one of the Department’s new electric buses that were recently put in service throughout the county and will be able to see the new, more efficient bus passenger shelters recently installed at the transportation hub located outside of Stephen P. Clark Center.
Members of the media attending this event are encouraged to RSVP by contacting Luis Espinoza at 305-992-8122 or luis.espinoza@miamidade.gov
