Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava Declares Local State of Emergency due to inclement weather
Tonight, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava has issued a Local State of Emergency as South Florida continues to face inclement weather and excessive rainfall affecting low-lying residential and commercial areas as well as local roadways. The State of Emergency is effective immediately and will cover both incorporated and unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County.
“As our departments and first responders continue working to keep residents and business safe, this is a necessary step to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our community throughout the entire county,” said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Out of an abundance of caution, this measure will give us the opportunity to react quickly and respond faster. In the meantime, we continue to ask residents and visitors to stay safe, stay inside, avoid flooded areas and remain vigilant for possible hazards.”
The State of Emergency allows Mayor Levine Cava to issue executive orders and take immediate actions to address the current emergency. The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings for South Florida, and additional rain is expected for several days, with some estimates projecting that between five and seven inches of additional rainfall is possible over the next several days.
