Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III and ITC Vice Chair Kevin Marino Cabrera welcome inbound delegation from Dakar, Senegal
Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III, and ITC Vice Chairman Kevin Marino Cabrera met with a high-level delegation from the Dakar Chamber of Commerce, continuing Miami-Dade County’s long-standing collaboration with Dakar, Senegal, as part of their Sister City and Sister Seaport relationship. This pivotal meeting provided an important opportunity to explore avenues for strengthening economic and commercial ties between both regions, particularly in the areas of maritime trade, logistics, and international business.
Dakar, Senegal, plays a key role in facilitating trade between the U.S. and West Africa, and its partnership with Miami-Dade County has proven instrumental in driving economic growth, expanding trade routes, and fostering mutual collaboration. PortMiami, one of the busiest ports in the U.S., has long benefitted from its sister seaport relationship with the Port of Dakar, with both ports working closely to enhance maritime trade, infrastructure development, and logistical efficiency.
During the meeting, ITC representatives engaged with the Dakar Chamber of Commerce delegation to discuss new business opportunities, trade initiatives, and the potential for increased investment in both regions. Key topics included expanding trade in sectors such as technology, agriculture, logistics, and tourism, as well as leveraging Miami-Dade’s strategic location to further connect West Africa with the Americas. Both sides expressed mutual interest in unlocking new opportunities for collaboration that will benefit local businesses, foster innovation, and support sustainable economic growth.
ITC extends its sincere thanks to Senator Amadou Thiam for his invaluable support in facilitating the introduction to the Dakar Chamber of Commerce.
This meeting is another step forward in building a brighter future for both our regions, and we look forward to continued collaboration and partnership. By strengthening these ties, we continue to drive opportunities for growth and development not only for Miami-Dade County but also for Senegal and the broader West African region.
