10 year old girl killed by stray bullet on New Years Day

Detectives from the Miami Dade Police Department's Homicide Bureau are investigating the shooting death of a 10-year-old girl.

According to investigators, on January 1st, 2025, shortly after 1:30 a.m. the victim was enjoying New Years Day celebrations with family members when she suddenly collapsed. Upon noticing the victim collapse, her parents began to examine their daughter for injuries when they discovered a wound to the back of her head. The victim’s parents immediately placed her in a vehicle and began searching for an area hospital while simultaneously calling emergency services. Hialeah Fire Rescue responded to the area of Palm Avenue and West 3rd Street and transported the victim to Jackson Ryder Trauma Center where she was pronounced deceased. Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim was struck by a stray bullet fired into the air from an unknown location by an unknown subject.
