April is Water Conservation Month
April marks the height of the dry season in South Florida, and Miami-Dade County observes it as Water Conservation Month by sharing tips and opportunities to help residents save water.
Simple changes in daily water use, along with participation in the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s (WASD) free showerhead exchange and rebate programs, can significantly reduce water consumption and help protect the County’s future water resources.
“Having access to reliable, high-quality drinking water is essential to a thriving community,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Water is foundational to both public health and our environment.”
With continued support from Mayor Cava, WASD is expanding its conservation efforts across the community.
“Miami-Dade County is committed to protecting our water resources every day, not just during times of drought,” said Water and Sewer Director Jay Fink. “Simple, practical actions can make a meaningful difference in preserving our water supply year-round.”
The department’s conservation program, supported by strong community participation, has reduced average water use from 153 gallons per person per day to 139 gallons—a savings of approximately nine million gallons per day over the past 18 years.
WASD offers rebates for high-efficiency toilets and showerheads, helping residents reduce water use and lower their utility bills. The department also provides lawn irrigation rebates. For more information on available programs and how to apply, visit the department’s Water Conservation page.
WASD remains committed to providing reliable service to its customers. For additional information about department services and programs, visit the WASD website.
