Historic Properties

Classification and assessment of historic properties for the purpose of Ad-Valorem tax exemption

Residential and Commercial

Ad-Valorem property tax exemptions are available to owners of designated properties who restore or make improvements to their buildings. The historic abatement tax exemption applies to the value added to the assessment of the property by restoration, renovation or rehabilitation and once granted remains in effect for 10 years regardless of changes in ownership.

Applicants must complete a Certificate Of Appropriateness (COA)Adobe Reader with the Miami-Dade County Office of Historic and Archaeological Resources located at 111 NW 1 ST, Box 695, Miami Florida 33128. Telephone Number (305) 375-4958.

Note: A separate application must be filed for municipal tax exemption with the city where the property is located. City of Miami, Miami Beach, Coral Gables and South Miami offer historic abatement tax exemptions.
