PRIDE (Parks and Recreation Improving the Delivery of Excellence) is the culture of how we conduct business at Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces (PROS) that embraces a “passion for excellence”. It is about continuous learning and improvement that drives us to be the best and maintain a competitive advantage based on our core values of excellence, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, integrity, innovation, inclusiveness, and stewardship.
Implemented to sustain this culture of continuous improvement, the PRIDE Sterling Leadership Program (SLP) is an exciting leadership opportunity designed to identify and develop employees who are interested in participating in future leadership of the department by being mentored to become PROS ambassadors, participate, and contribute to critical Department-wide strategic objectives. Employees who are selected to participate in PRIDE SLP will do so over a minimum of 12 months, and will be paired with someone from Management, who will act as their mentor. This mentor will provide them with coaching and advice to assist them in developing their administrative, management and leadership skills while providing them a better understanding of department-wide goals. PRIDE participants will be expected to dedicate an average of 16 hours per month to work side by side with their mentor. Employees who are selected to participate in PRIDE will contribute to the department’s success in various areas including Placemaking, Health & Fitness, Conservation & Stewardship, Sustainability, and Performance Excellence.
Congratulations to the current PRIDE Sterling Leadership Program protégés: Teri Aking-Dindial, Barbara Fenelon, Abraham Ford, Shaneika L. Harvey, Evelyn Hernandez, Alison King, Michelle Lawrence-Muniz, Carlos Lopez, Jose Otero Rosado, Zacchur Porter, and Alejandro Veguilla.
Promoting Inclusive Recreation Through Sensory Garden Experiences” is PRIDE SLP X’s legacy project to construct sensory gardens is designed to stimulate and engage the five basic senses of sight, smell, sound, touch, and taste. Research indicates that sensory gardens are therapeutic and benefit those with sensory disorders. The project aligns with the Department’s mission, vision, and core values; enhances beautification and provides memorable experiences to support Placemaking; provides opportunities for evidence-based learning and implements inclusion to support Health and Fitness; increases environmental awareness, education, and actions to support Conservation and Stewardship; grows stewards of parks through outreach; enhances inclusion through resource investment in underserved communities: encourages connection to nature and heightens sense of awareness to surroundings.
