West Venetian Bascule Bridge Replacement Project

Venetian Causeway

Deterioration caused by a harsh marine environment due to the Venetian bridges' location and low elevation has resulted in the need to demolish and replace the westernmost 730 feet of the West Venetian Bascule Bridge.

A localized bridge deck failure in April 2014, and subsequent evaluation of the bridge’s condition, resulted in the project, estimated to cost $12 million.

The bridge closed to all traffic on June 1, 2015, and work will last for nine months. Construction will take place Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The contractor may occasionally conduct work on Sunday and in the evenings when necessary.

Vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists needing to travel to and from Miami Beach should use the MacArthur or Julia Tuttle Causeways.

The east bascule bridge is closed to marine traffic to ensure vehicular traffic will be able to access and depart from the Venetian Causeway.

Community meetings will take place regarding this project.
