The Miami-Dade County Attorney’s Office advises and represents all aspects of Miami-Dade County government, including the Mayor and the 13-member Board of County Commissioners, the Property Appraiser, County departments and numerous boards, authorities, councils and commissions.

Attorneys in the County Attorney’s Office work closely with the Board of County Commissioners, the Mayor, and various County departments to research, draft, review and approve for legal sufficiency all legislation for consideration by the County Commission. Attorneys also represent the County in all litigation and transactions involving the County. Attorneys are involved in a diverse legal practice including areas such as commercial, procurement, construction, code enforcement, foreclosures, real estate, labor and employment, constitutional law, ethics, federal and state trial and appellate litigation, workers’ compensation, environmental, land use, zoning, governmental affairs, eminent domain, bankruptcy, housing, municipal finance, taxation, tort liability, and medical malpractice.

Among its responsibilities, the Office provides representation to the County’s administrative departments and agencies responsible for the operation of Miami International Airport, one of the nation's busiest airports, PortMiami, the world's largest passenger seaport, the Public Health Trust, which operates Jackson Memorial Hospital, the largest teaching hospital in the Southeast U.S., Metrorail and Metromover, a billion-dollar rapid transit system, ZooMiami, a world class zoo, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and several art and history museums. Each section is overseen by a section head who, in addition to handling his or her own cases, is responsible for the administration of the section. In addition, each division is led by a division chief, who is responsible for, among other things: facilitating communication, collaboration, and education among attorneys in various sections and practice areas; assisting in the development of necessary legal skills; and imparting institutional knowledge.
