David Sherman is an experienced litigator, and serves as the section head of the Environmental, Code Enforcement and Foreclosures Section. David works closely with the County's Department of Regulatory & Economic Resources, as well as aspects of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, the Solid Waste Department, and the Finance Department's Division of Credit and Collections in matters regarding compliance with the Code of Miami-Dade County. David was previously a member of the Tort & Medical Malpractice Litigation Section, and has defended the County against personal injury, false arrest, excessive force, and property damage claims.
Before joining the County Attorney's Office, David was an Assistant State Attorney at the Office of the State Attorney in Miami-Dade County for nearly fifteen years. He has served as lead counsel in numerous jury trials, handled appeals, and argued a wide range of constitutional motions. At the State Attorney's Office, he created and supervised both the Cybercrimes Unit and the Mortgage Fraud Unit. During that time, he also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney at the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida. Prior to his role as a Division Chief in the State Attorney's Office, David was a prosecutor in the Economic Crimes Division and the Sexual Battery Unit. In his time as a prosecutor, David prosecuted serious felonies including homicides, sexual batteries, aggravated child abuse cases involving shaken baby syndrome, transmission and possession of child pornography, child enticement cases, robberies, racketeering, fraud, identity theft, elderly exploitation, and drug trafficking cases.
