Since joining the office in 2012, Ileana Cruz has been a member of the Taxation & Bankruptcy Section. Her practice involves advising Miami-Dade's Property Appraiser and Tax Collector in administrative and litigation matters relating to ad valorem taxes, value adjustment board decisions, and local business tax issues. Among other matters, Ileana specializes in representing the interests of the Tax Collector and other County departments in federal bankruptcy courts in the Southern District of Florida, as well as federal courts elsewhere in Florida and across the country.
In addition to her tax and bankruptcy litigation practice, Ileana counsels the Finance Department on legislative items, drafts ordinances and resolutions, and advises the Board of County Commissioners on tax and finance matters.
Before joining the County Attorney's Office, Ileana practiced with the Financial Restructuring and Insolvency group of the international law firm, White & Case LLP. She also practiced locally with the Business Restructuring group of Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff and Sitterson P.A. in Miami. Throughout her years of practice, Ileana has represented clients in complex corporate restructuring matters, including Chapter 11 cases, cross-broader restructurings and out-of-court workouts. She has extensive experience representing creditors and debtors in a wide spectrum of industries, and has prosecuted and defended preference and fraudulent transfer litigation in New York, Delaware and Florida.
