Assistant County Attorney
Anita Viciana joined the County Attorney's Office in 2015. As part of the Federal Litigation section, Anita defends the County and its employees in federal civil rights cases, most often dealing with qualified immunity, municipal liability, and civil rights issues. Anita has defended the County and its employees in dozens of federal actions, and is experienced in every stage of federal litigation at the trial and appellate levels, including presenting oral argument before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Anita also represents the County in federal litigation relating to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and advises various County departments on ADA matters. In addition to her federal litigation practice, Anita advises the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR) on legislative matters, and works with the Board of County Commissioners in preparing and reviewing ordinances and resolutions on behalf of the Board.
Anita graduated from Yale Law School, where she was the Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Journal on Health Policy, Law, and Ethics and served as a Student Director with the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization.
