Assistant County Attorney
Ergio I. Fernandez is a seasoned state and federal litigator and trial lawyer, currently serving in the Environmental, Code Enforcement and Foreclosures Section. Over his legal career, Ergio has litigated hundreds of cases and tried dozens of jury and bench trials to verdict. Prior to joining the County Attorney's Office, Ergio spent 19 years in private practice, where he handled cases involving commercial litigation, torts, criminal defense, and family law. He also served as outside counsel to corporate clients in matters involving corporate governance, business transactions, and regulatory compliance.
Ergio started his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. In that capacity, he investigated and prosecuted thousands of cases ranging from misdemeanors to capital felonies. His successful tenure at the State Attorney's Office included an appointment as Assistant Chief of County Court, where he trained and supervised new misdemeanor prosecutors, and culminated with his selection to the specialized Economic Crimes Unit, where he was responsible for investigating and prosecuting white collar offenders, including public officials and corporations, for violations of the public trust and financial crimes. In this specialized unit, Ergio counseled and worked closely with state and federal criminal law enforcement and regulatory investigators, including local police departments, U.S. Secret Service, FBI, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the Florida Department of Health, and others, in connection with various aspects of governmental investigations.
