Going Green with Technology The MDPSTI has utilized an electronic training needs assessment for MDPD for the past five years, creating a much more reliable system while at the same time reducing paper waste. As far back as 2011, the MDPSTI Computer Based Training Unit (CBT) created, disseminated, and compiled an online training needs assessment survey. In addition to this, the CBT has developed multiple online training segments for the Department's personnel, for Miami-Dade Corrections Personnel, as well as many Florida law enforcement partners. Some of this training includes, Florida Department of Law Enforcement recertification trainings, situational awareness training, vehicle operations, terrorism awareness, and computerized dispatch training.
Applied Professionalism Leadership Program Miami-Dade Public Safety Training Institute (MDPSTI) recently implemented the first-ever Applied Professionalism Leadership Program for supervisors of both Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation (MDCR).
This in-depth program was designed to incorporate both universal and department-specific training concepts and procedures in a multi-module format. The modules are three days each and spread out over the course of six months, thereby minimally impacting workforce demands and officer-inmate ratios.
The program’s unique design delivers much needed training to supervisors who might be otherwise unable to leave their assignments for extended periods of time. In addition, the multi-agency approach to this training program also increases the classroom dynamic, and fosters a greater inter-agency understanding and cooperation.
