About Jose A. Vicente

Dr.  José A. Vicente has served Miami Dade College in various capacities for four decades. He has held various leadership positions within the College stemming from associate dean of academic support, dean of academic affairs as well as administrative services, founding president of the InterAmerican Campus, and interim president of the Medical Campus and Hialeah Campus of which he was instrumental in establishing. In the 1970's, he served as a para-professional and administrator in the Community Services Division as well as in the Grants Office; and subsequently complemented his career by serving as professor. He also led the unprecedented renaissance of the North Campus as past President for the previous decade. During his tenure, he led the development/establishment of MDC-TV, the first three baccalaureate degree programs, and the Tower Theater for MDC. 

At the local level, he is currently a member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors, City of Miami Education Advisory Board, and Association of Florida Colleges. He also serves as a member of the Council on Educational Change Executive PASS, the Miami Advisory Council of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the Miami Dade College Foundation Board of Directors, and the CAMACOL Board of Directors.

Vicente is an alumnus of Miami Dade College, St. Thomas University as well as Nova Southeastern University where he earned a doctorate in Higher Education Administration. His post-doctoral studies were undertaken at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government and The College of Education. He was the first Hispanic in the State of Florida to be selected as a Fellow of the American Council on Education.
